Four Italian Judoka Earn Gold At Follonica

Even though the Russian team showcased a litany of skill, the Italian team persisted and showcased world class ability in front of a home crowd .

According to Judo Insider, more than 500 athletes came to Follonica for the first European Cup of the season, with some categories seeing over 50 Judoka in their division.

Russia was able to earn gold on day one, with Iznaur Saaev in the U50kg, Sergey Eroshenko in the  U55kg and Shamil Umaev at U60kg, taking the top honor in their weight class. On Sunday Iosif Simin captured the fourth gold for Russia at +90kg.

And while only one of the members of Italy’s men’s team, Alessi Granziano took home gold, the women’s team would walk away with three of the top honors, including an all-Italian final in the U48kg division as Assunta Scutto bested Sara Lisciani.
