Frampton, Santa Cruz Face Off in Belfast

Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz faced off today in Frampton’s native Belfast, officially announcing their January rematch. Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) defeated Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs) on July 30 to capture the WBA featherweight title.

Their rematch will headline a Premier Boxing Champions card on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The first fight between Frampton and Santa Cruz was one of the best fights of 2016, a back-and-forth brawl that Frampton won by a narrow margin. After the bout’s conclusion, a rematch was all but guaranteed.

A press conference was held today, during which Frampton and Santa Cruz discussed the upcoming rematch.

Santa Cruz, a Mexican-American fighter with a number of "Fight of the Year" candidates under his belt, has won championships at multiple divisions on the way to his loss with Frampton.

Frampton is ranked one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet after being the first man to defeat Santa Cruz. Prior to beating Santa Cruz, Frampton had beaten Scott Quigg to unify the 122-pound titles.
