Francis Ngannou Is ‘Very Interested’ In Fighting Rumble Johnson
Francis Ngannou wouldn’t mind sharing the Octagon with a fellow power puncher in Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.
Ngannou is still out of the loop on his next fight. “The Predator” was thought of to be next in line for a heavyweight title rematch against champion Stipe Miocic. With Miocic out until at least March 2021, according to Ngannou, it leaves things up in the air.
Speaking to Brian Campbell of Morning Kombat, Ngannou said he wouldn’t mind going one-on-one with “Rumble” Johnson, who is planning to make a return (h/t BJPenn.com).
“Yeah, I would be very interested in that fight. Rumble Johnson is a guy that I respect a lot. I know him as a person, and I admire him as a person. It would be great to share the Octagon with him, no matter if it’s for the title or not.
“Even beyond Rumble Johnson I still have some dreams and some aspirations,” Ngannou continued. “But I have stay focused and realistic, and deal with the situation right now. Obviously that question has popped up before, and I would be down for that fight. It would such a great fight, and it would be such an honor to fight Rumble Johnson.”
Much has been made about Johnson’s plan to return to action. At first, “Rumble” was looking to begin his comeback in the heavyweight division. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto later reported that Johnson has shifted gears and wants to return as a light heavyweight. It’ll be interesting to see what Johnson ultimately decides to do.
