Francis Ngannou-Jon Jones Seems Unlikely
Francis Ngannou shared his thoughts on one of his rivals.
During an interview with Bruce Buffer, Ngannou shared some thoughts about Jon Jones. After being an underdog against undefeated, first, ever French interim champion, Ciryl Gane, and still earning the victory and defending his throne for the first time, the hype around a clash between Jones and Ngannou increased a lot.
“I think the first thing we have to know is if Jon Jones is going to fight or not,” Ngannou said on Bruce Buffer’s IT’S TIME podcast.
“Because actually, he finds himself a better battle on Twitter than in the Octagon. The past has shown that in the heavyweight division, they can wait for a year for a title defense… We’ve been having one title defense [per year] in the heavyweight division for a long time, so I don’t think that’s the issue.”
For almost two years, Jones did not fight inside the octagon. Outside the octagon, he did participate in several fights, but not in official ones.
Ngannou, meanwhile, has had several problems with the promotion because of his contract – he wants a new one. He wants to make more than $600,000 and have an option to box.
Media asked UFC President Dana White if Jones was next in line for Ngannou, but White said he has no idea what Jones wants to do. Jones has announced he plans to move up to heavyweight, but there hasn’t been any new developments on an upcoming fight.
Ngannou also previously said that he doesn’t want to fight Jones anymore. It was clear, via Twitter, that Jones tuned into Ngannou’s fight, but he didn’t seem too impressed.
