Francis Ngannou Targeted To Defend Heavyweight Title Vs. Ciryl Gane At UFC 270

Heavyweight king Francis Ngannou is officially expected to return to the ring.

Ngannou (16-3) will defend his heavyweight championship belt for the first time against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 in January, ESPN reported Wednesday.

Contracts have not been signed by either parties, but both sides have reportedly agreed. The title fight is expected to headline a pay-per-view event on January 22 at a location to be determined.

French outlet La Sueur reported the projected date.

Ngannou’s first title defense will also be a chance for Gane to unify his interim title, which he snagged in August via third-round TKO over Derrick Lewis.

Ngannou, the Cameroon fighter, claimed the belt by knocking out Stipe Miocic at UFC 260 in March.

Gane and Ngannou used to be sparring partners earlier in their careers, both training under Fernand Lopez in Paris. Ngannou left in 2018 to train in Las Vegas.
