Frank Mir Ruins Brock Lesnar’s UFC Debut – February 2, 2008 (This Day In MMA History)
For what was supposed to be an amazing UFC debut for WWE superstar Brock Lesnar, didn’t turn out how some may have hoped.
Lesnar’s debut lasted just 90 seconds against former UFC champion Frank Mir. Lesnar was submitted in the first round and didn’t even make it long enough to hear the second-round bell.
But some UFC fans anticipated Lesnar wasn’t going to pull off a victory because he was swapping staged fighting for real fighting.
Lesnar, however, was revved to take the promotion by storm. He scored an early takedown and went for the attack, but the referee controversially intervened, deducting a point from Lesnar.
Lesnar later dropped Mir again and delivered a barrage of blows, but Mir reversed his position, locking his opponent in a kneebar, forcing Lesnar to tap.
Lesnar later got revenge and defeated Mir for the heavyweight belt in July of 2009. He would later lose it to Cain Velasquez.
