Frank Warren: Fury vs. Usyk Rematch Will Happen

The Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk rematch will likely take place in October.

That is according to Frank Warren. Usyk defeated Fury via a split decision to become the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion since 1999, when Lennox Lewis achieved that feat. It was Fury’s first loss, as Usyk remained undefeated. Usyk joins Evander Holyfield as another who became undisputed at cruiserweight and heavyweight.

In the post-fight ring interview, Fury expressed his desire to invoke the rematch clause. But in the post-fight presser, Fury backtracked, saying he would take some time off before deciding what to do next. Now, Warren has said there will be a rematch.

“He’s back here [already]. He’s recuperating and his mood is that he wants the rematch and that’s already signed for so it will happen,” Warren said

Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, stated they would honor the rematch clause. However, it is unlikely to be for undisputed. The IBF is likely to call the mandatory, with Usyk either being stripped or vacating due to the Fury rematch. Even if Fury beats Usyk in the rematch, the fact that it will unlikely be for undisputed would downplay the significance of any win.
