Fury’s co-promoter, Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, won the rights to the WBC heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte with a commitment of $41 million at Friday’s purse bid.
Fury, the champion, will earn $32.8 million while Whyte, the WBC’s longtime No. 1 contender, will make $8.2 million.
“I WAS THRILLED on Friday to bring the Tyson Fury-Dillian Whyte ‘will they, won’t they’ saga to a successful conclusion with a winning purse bid to ensure our man will enjoy his home comforts on the big night,” Warren wrote on Boxing Scene.
“We did expect to post the winning bid and were confident of obtaining the right to stage this blockbuster heavyweight bash but, in this game, you do learn to expect the unexpected at times.”
According to reports, Queensberry Promotions has pledged that a guaranteed 10% in the bonus will be awarded to the winner. One thing is for sure, Queensberry Promotions –Frank Warren and co- certainly know how to bolster the winning side.
Announcements are expected in the coming week regarding the date and venue. This fight is all set to be the biggest fight of this year.
His rival, Hearn, however, has certain reservations regarding the transparency of the bidding procedure and claims that Warren has used resources behind the doors to secure the rights of the blockbuster fight.
