Frank Warren: Tyson Fury Needs Certain Assurances Before Anthony Joshua Fight

Queensberry Promotions’ Frank Warren says there are still some minor details to work on before Tyson Fury fights Anthony Joshua.

Fury and Joshua are expected to collide at some point in 2021. Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn says the two will go one-on-one either on August 7 or the 14th in Saudi Arabia.

During an interview with talkSPORT, Warren said the August 7 date is off the table but the 14th is realistic.

“It definitely won’t be on August 7 because that’s when the Olympic games are on and that’s gonna be a problem for TV. Besides that, you’ve got a UFC PPV in the States and UK. So if it goes on, it’ll be on August 14. I don’t think the date is the problem at all, I think everyone’s agreed that can be moved to August 14.”

Warren went on to say that the bout remains unofficial. That’s because Fury must have the assurances he’s asked for in writing before he signs on the dotted line.

“What we’re all trying to do is get this over the line, but the only way we’ll get it over the line is by the fighter, Tyson, getting certain assurances. If he gets them, he’ll put pen to paper, but as it is now, he’s waiting for the other side’s lawyers to confirm what he wants.”
