Frankie Edgar-Yair Rodriguez Added to UFC 211

With every passing day, a new high-profile bout seems to be added to the already-stacked UFC 211 card. On Thursday the UFC announced a featherweight fight between former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and surging contender Yair Rodriguez.

Edgar (21-5-1) last fought at UFC 205 in New York, where he defeated Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision. He had previously lost to Jose Aldo in an interim title fight at UFC 200. His only two losses at featherweight have come to Aldo, who he unsuccessfully challenged for the featherweight belt n 2013.

Rodriguez (10-1) defeated B.J. Penn in brutal fashion in January, continuing his undefeated UFC streak. He is widely considered one of the most promising young prospects in the UFC, and he is getting a major step up in competition at UFC 211.

The Dallas card, if it holds together, is the most stacked of 2017 by a long shot. Headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Junior Dos Santos, UFC 211 also features a strawweight title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade, a welterweight contender’s fight between Jorge Masvidal and Demian Maia and a lightweight fight between former champ Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier.
