Freak Accident Pulls Frampton Off Return
Days away from his return to the ring against Emmanuel Dominguez, WBO interim featherweight champion Carl Frampton has been pulled from the fight.
Frampton, who was set to main event an ESPN+ card from the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was injured on Monday morning when a concrete structure hit Frampton’s left hand, breaking the fifth metacarpal.
“I’m gutted, gutted for the people that paid their hard-earned money to make the trip to support me,” Frampton said in a Top Rank press release.
“I’ve spent the summer away from my family training for the fight, all a waste now because of this freak accident.”
Dominguez is also pulled from the event, that will now see Jason-Sosa Haskell and Lydell Rhodes ten-rounder move into the main event slot, while Edgar Berlanga and Gregory Tenel’s middleweight tilt will act as the co-main event.
