Fundora Eyes Ortiz Jr. Fight

WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) revealed that he is targeting interim WBC 140-pound  champ Vergil Ortiz Jr. (24-0, 22 KOs) as the co-feature on the Canelo Alvarez September 12 card, which is being dubbed “Mexico vs. the World.”

Born to Mexican and Cuban parents, Fundora fits the “Mexico vs. The World” theme perfectly, making him an attractive option for a card designed to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

Before Fundora can look toward and Ortiz fight, he must defend his WBC title against former welterweight champ Keith “One Time” Thurman on March 28. At 6’6″, Fundora’s ability to safely make the 154-lb limit remains a constant topic of discussion. However, the champion is ready to face Ortiz at 154.

“It would be great to fight on the Canelo card. I’ll be ready to fight again in September after the Thurman fight. I’ll fight Vergil. I’m expecting the best Keith Thurman, but this is a new era. I’m beating him down,” Fundora said
