Fury And Usyk Separated During Kick Off Press Conference

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk kicked off the first presser for their undisputed heavyweight fight on February 17th, 2024.ย

The fight has been long in the making, with both sides directing the blame at each other for the initial breakdown in talks. Disputes over the purse split in a rematch clause prevented a fight from being made in April at Wembley. Thereafter, Saudi Arabia secured the fight with both fighters being paid their respective purses, without a split being considered, as the fight was on. A date for December 23rd, 2023, was fixed, only for that to be moved after Furyโ€™s fight with Francis Ngannou. The fight proved much tougher than expected as Fury had to get off the canvas to secure a split-decision win, while many had the decision in favor of Ngannou.ย

As for Usyk, the boxer is also coming off a controversial win over Daniel Dubois. Despite stopping the heavyweight in the ninth round, Usyk could have been counted out in round five. Dubois landed with a punch that sent Usyk to the floor, which was declared a low blow, that divided many boxing experts in the aftermath.ย

And with both fighters having something to prove, there is plenty on the line. Usyk brings his WBA, WBO and IBF titles against Furyโ€™s WBC belt. A win for the Ukrainian makes him undisputed in a second weight class, while a victory for Fury dispels any doubts over his form and motivation, thus putting the winner as the best heavyweight of this era.

The face-off promised an intense fight, with both boxers touching heads as neither fighter refused to back down.ย With that being said, here were the key highlights.

Highlights

“He’s getting knocked out, and you two will be working for me,” Fury
