Fury Blames Hearn’s Ego For Joshua Delay

Tyson Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) says Eddie Hearn’s resistance to Dana White and TKO’s involvement is contributing to the delay in finalizing his proposed November 20 fight with Anthony Joshua (30-4, 27 KOs) at Madison Square Garden.
Fury has put the chances of the long-awaited fight taking place at “50/50” as negotiations continue over the venue and terms.

“We’ll see whose ego gets in the way here. And I believe it’s Eddie Hearn’s ego. I believe because they think Dana White’s involved and TKO that he’s like, ‘Why should they be involved?’” Fury said.

Hearn has confirmed Joshua has now received the remaining money owed from his July win over Kristian Prenga. Matchroom’s attention has since turned to the terms required to move the fight from the UK, where Joshua’s original agreement specified it would take place, to New York.
Hearn has raised concerns over the financial impact of fighting in the United States, including the additional tax burden, but indicated those issues could be resolved.

“We’ve set out our position, mainly in concern to the tax situation that will deplete his net purse by going to America, which can be rectified. I think they’re happy to do that,” Hearn said.

Hearn said talks are continuing as time runs short to finalize the November event.

“If they want it there, they’ll sign it. If not, we’ll be very happy, and we’ll do it in the UK. We’re speaking multiple times a day, but we’re running out of time,” Hearn said.

Fury has said he is not personally involved in negotiations. Madison Square Garden remains the expected venue if the fight moves to the United States, but the agreement has yet to be finalized.
