Fury Considers Whyte A Coward
With a long time between now and February 22nd, Tyson Fury will need to fight at least one more time before his rematch with WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
One option has been a potential showdown with fellow UK fighter, Dillian Whyte, who battles Oscar Rivas on July 20th at the O2 Arena.
Even if Whyte wins against Rivas, if Fury had his way, he’d have nothing to do with the top WBC challenger.
“Dillian Whyte, he can’t fight, he’s a bum,” Fury told Michelle Joy Phelps during an interview with Behind The Gloves. “He’s got no stamina, he can’t take a punch, and he’s useless, he really can’t fight. And he’s a s***house. Dillian Whyte’s a coward… no guts, he’s a coward.”
“Dillian Whyte… you ain’t getting a WBC title shot. 500 days, is it, at the mandatory position,” Fury said of Whyte’s contender purgatory, being passed over for Luis Ortiz, Fury and Dominic Breazeale. “Still can’t get a title shot and I’ve tied Wilder up for f*****g two fights, mush.
“We’re gonna fight February 22 [Writer’s note: since refuted] and then there’s a rematch clause, a trilogy, so it doesn’t look like he’s gonna get his shot.”
