Fury–Joshua To Fight For WBA ‘Super’ Heavyweight Title

Tyson Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (30-4, 27 KOs) will fight for the WBA ‘Super’ heavyweight title when they meet at Principality Stadium in Cardiff on December 11.

Neither fighter currently holds a world title, but the WBA’s top heavyweight championship will be at stake in the all-British fight. The bout could therefore crown a three-time heavyweight champion, with both boxers former two-time titleholders.

The move creates two WBA heavyweight titleholders, with Murat Gassiev currently holding the organization’s existing championship. Gassiev defended the title with a sixth-round stoppage win over Peter Kadiru on July 11, after the WBA elevated his status when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the title on June 26.

The WBA had previously moved away from its system of multiple champions in each division as part of an effort to establish a single recognized titleholder. Its decision to introduce the ‘Super’ designation for Fury-Joshua reverses that approach at heavyweight.

Fury and Joshua both returned with tune-up victories this year. Fury beat Arslanbek Makhmudov by unanimous decision on April 11 and then stopped Mariusz Wach in the seventh round of their July 24 bout. Joshua, meanwhile, has fought just once in 2026 — a second-round knockout of Kristian Prenga that required him to climb off the canvas himself twice in the opening round.

Fury has opened as a -180 betting favorite, with Joshua listed at +150.
