Fury: Katie Taylor ‘An Inspiration To All’

The sports world has a special place in the heart of many. It can be an escape from reality or it can motivate you to be the best that you can be. There are those who look up to athletes as a result, calling them heroes and anything else you can think of. There are also athletes who look up to other athletes.

Tyson Fury (29-0-1), the lineal heavyweight champion, spoke with Miriam O’Callaghan on RTE Radio 1 to promote his fight against Deontay Wilder. He also discussed his new book, ‘Behind the Mask’, which was released this week. It is no secret that Fury has suffered through depression, and his book goes into detail on his breakdown (alcoholism, drug use) following the famed Wladimir Klitschko bout.

Fury has since turned his life around, and tries to send a positive message to everyone around him. Someone who he considers a huge inspiration, not just to himself but the world, is champion Katie Taylor.

“I’ve known Katie a long time, we go back a long time and I think she is absolutely fantastic,” Fury stated. “She is definitely the fighting pride of Ireland, that’s for sure. She is an unbelievable ambassador for women’s boxing, sports in general, in Ireland and all over the world. She is an inspiration to all.”

Taylor (15-0) is the undisputed women’s lightweight champion and just recently won the WBO Junior Featherweight Title from Christina Linardatou. Her dominance and overall likability have made her a fan-favorite. Taylor has inspired many to follow in her steps, including Terri Harper. The reborn Fury is passionate about the sport and life, and including Taylor within the conversation may have more value than others might like to admit.

Fury, who trains in MMA, also complimented Conor McGregor. A two division champion, Conor’s mindset on winning and training is something Fury can get behind.

“I think Conor is an absolute fantastic fighting man, and he has offered to train me if I ever want to go into MMA,” Fury went on to say.”

Fury is set to face Wilder in a rematch of their 2018 bout on February 22. The fight will take place inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
