Following unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk revealing he’s targeting a third fight vs Tyson Fury for the final fight of his career, Fury responded by saying he would face him, however, he feels he would need to knock him out to win since he’s convinced the judges would never award him a decision, having already lost that way twice to the Ukrainian.
Fury is preparing for his April 11 return against Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, his first fight since retiring in January 2025 after two Usyk defeats. Despite Usyk recently mapping out a retirement plan that includes his upcoming fight vs kickboxer Rico Verhoeven, a fight vs the winner of Fabio Wardley’s WBO heavyweight title defense vs Daniel Dubois, followed by the Fury trilogy, Fury remains convinced that the scorecards are stacked against him before the first bell even rings.
Fury’s frustration stems from his two 2024 defeats, as he missed out on becoming the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. In their first fight, Fury survived a ninth-round knockdown to lose a narrow split decision. The December 2024 rematch saw Usyk secure a more convincing unanimous decision. Fury admitted that while he wants a third fight, he feels he must stop him to get the win.
“I want a third fight but, the thing is: I know if he stands up at the end of it, I’m not going to get a decision. For me, it’s like you may as well give him the fight. Before we even box, give him the W [win] and just give me the money, because that’s what’s going to happen anyway – if I don’t knock him out. If I could’ve knocked him out, I would’ve done already. He’s a tough man and, every time he gets hurt, he can sort of nip and run away with his speed and agility. So yeah, I’m not going to get a decision; it’s not going to be a fair result,” Fury said
