Tyson Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs) says he has a clear back-up plan if his long-awaited clash with Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) collapses again — a shot at WBC interim champion Agit Kabayel (27-0, 19 KOs).
Fury and Joshua have been linked with an end-of-year fight, with wins in their respective tune-up fights expected to finally set up the bout. Joshua faces Albania’s Kristian Prenga on June 25, while Fury — yet to confirm his next date — is expected back in August, possibly against former sparring partner Nelson Hysa.
Should it fall through, Fury said he’d pursue Kabayel instead — particularly if Oleksandr Usyk vacates his mandatory obligation to the German.
“I would like to become a three-time champion,” Fury said. “There are a few scenarios happening and I am in a great position. I am number one ranked with the WBC again — if rabbit face [Usyk] pulls out of the fight with Kabayel, then I am in with Kabayel.”
