Fury Taps Top UK Cruiser For Sparring
While Anthony Joshua will not be the man to get Tyson Fury ready for February 22nd, he’s tapped some up and coming challengers to help him get ready for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
Richard Riakporhe and Lawrence Okolie were tapped by the former unified world heavyweight champion to join him in Las Vegas prior to the PPV showdown against Wilder. And while Riakporhe is more than interested, his broken hand leaves him unable to join.
“They called me to spar but, because of my hand, I couldn’t. It would have been an experience,” Riakporhe said to Sky Sports.
“I’m leaning to Fury – he will be more serious and disciplined. All that showboating means he switches off, and that’s how he was put down. If he was serious and conducted himself properly in that fight, he would be the world champion by now,” Riakporhe said.
As for Okolie, the Anthony Joshua represented cruiserweight was a part of Fury’s first Wilder camp in 2018, but has yet to commit one way or another.”It was a learning experience that we both gained from. I must have done something right for them to want me back again,” Okolie said.
