Fury Vs. Usyk Could Now Happen In 2024 – Says Frank Warren

An undisputed heavyweight clash featuring Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk may now happen in 2024.

That is according to Frank Warren. The Queensbury promoter’s statement was in reference to Fury’s hard-fought victory over Francis Ngannou. In what was expected to be a routine win for Fury, the former UFC heavyweight champion put on a better-than-expected performance. And the heavy blows on Fury were telling. A left hook resulted in a cut above Fury’s eye in the second round.

In addition, Ngannou dropped Fury in the third round with a left hook and continued to press the action, with some believing he had done enough to win. Carl Froch was very vocal about the decision to give the split-decision win to Fury, claiming it was ‘corruption’ to deprive Ngannou of the victory. Thereafter, Warren expressed doubts about the fight happening on December 23rd, 2023, claiming the Gypsy King would need time to recover.

“Usyk got in the ring afterwards. That fight was signed and we were gonna do it on 23rd December. I doubt that will happen now because Tyson can’t be going into a camp after a tough fight like that having a week off. That’s eight weeks away. He needs a bit of time to get his body back into shape and let it heal before he gets back into camp. It’ll be on early next year Riyadh Season finishes in March. It could be up until then. I told him to [have a rest]. He wanted to fight. I said, ‘Just go and have a break. You don’t have to make no decisions tonight. You do it to your agenda, not to everybody else’s,” Warren said
Nevertheless, Usyk countered those comments. The unified heavyweight champion responded to those claims by stating that contracts had been agreed for a bout in December. And the Ukrainian expected the fight date to be honoured, particularly since Fury was adamant over the fight happening in December prior to the Ngannou bout.

“Uncle Frank [Warren] says some sneaky things. We have a contract that says the fight has to take place on Dec 23rd. Let Fury vacate his title first, then he can take his rest. Tyson, we must fight, we must do it, Dec 23rd. See you in the ring,” Usyk
