Fury Will Have To Wait For Joshua
Eddie Hearn confirmed although the terms for a fight with Tyson Fury were received, the immediate priority for Anthony Joshua (29-4-0, 26 KOs) is a summer return before facing The “Gypsy King” at the end of the year.
While the Fury fight is the ultimate goal, Hearn is adamant that Joshua will not jump straight into the biggest fight unless he is prepared. Joshua was involved in a fatal car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan highway in Nigeria last December. While he sustained only minor physical injuries, the crash claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and training staff: Sina Ghami (strength coach) and Latif “Latz” Ayodele (trainer). No name is finalized for July, but Deontay Wilder remains a recurring name in the conversation.
“We received the contract last week, we are going through that. He is about to get the all clear in terms of the physical side to return to full training, and that is great news. We expect to see him back in the ring in July. I think it is very likely [he will have a tune-up fight]. Fury has just had his tune-up fight with 12 really vital rounds to get him sharp for the next one, and I expect us to do the same,” Hearn said
