Gabriel Braga’s Comeback PFL Victory Following Death Of Father In January

Following the death of his father in January, Gabriel Braga needed some time away from MMA, but he has now had a victorious comeback performance this past weekend at PFL in Chicago.

The featherweight competitor’s father, Diego, was murdered earlier this year in an unfortunate run in with a known drug gang. The late Diego was also a massive part of his son’s fighting career, serving successfully as head coach since the beginning.

After pulling out of his bout in February due to not feeling mentally ready for a return just yet, Braga re-entered the Smart Cage for the first time since November 2023. Despite a lengthy layoff, and the absence of his father in the corner, he scored an impressive first round knockout over Justin Gonzales, making it clear that this time he was ready for his return.

Just as the first round was coming to a close, Braga stepped toward his opponent and unleashed a nasty left hook.  The punch landed cleanly, and separated Gonzales from reality with just one second left on the clock.

Prior to signing with the PFL, Braga competed in LFA and UAE Warriors, and remained undefeated through his time with both. His only loss came just prior to his most recent appearance, when he faced Jesus Pinedo in 2023.

Many feel that the fact that he was coming off a loss into Saturday’s contest served as an added test in mental grit. Not only was this a comeback fight following a personal and professional tragedy, but this was also a test of motivation as he hoped for a bounce back win, which he achieved in dramatic fashion.
