Garbrandt Shares His Thoughts On Cejudo Vs. Cruz

The list of recent opponents lined up for UFC Bantamweight Champion Henry Cejudo has caught the attention of former champion Cody Garbrandt. One of the main fighters “No Love” wants to talk about is Dominick Cruz.

Garbrandt (11-3) took to social media to mock Cejudo’s (15-2) potential opponent. Initially, Cejudo was going to be defending his Bantamweight Title against Jose Aldo at UFC 250. Aldo pulled out of the fight, with rumors of Cruz (22-2) stepping in. The bout is currently scheduled for a potential May card. Garbrandt stated the following:

“Triple C stands For Triple Coward you chose a guy who hasn’t fought in over 4 years @HenryCejudo come on @ufc!! • side note Rafael I’ll see you before the summer is up…”

Within the message, Garbrandt is talking about Raphael Assuncao. The two were supposed to face off at UFC on ESPN 8 on March 28, but Garbrandt had to back out due to kidney issues.

Why is Garbrandt talking about Cruz? One of the top bantamweights in UFC history in Cruz lost to Garbrandt back at UFC 207 in 2016. The bout, for the UFC Bantamweight Title, was the last time Cruz fought. Garbrandt has joined a number of people who have wanted Cejudo to face legitimate challengers like Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling.

Cejudo has chosen a select group to face him, Garbrandt included. One of the issues is the track record of the fighters, like Garbrandt, who is on a three-fight losing streak and hasn’t won a bout since 2016. Knowing this, Cejduo responded to Garbrandt’s message:

“You just keep up with that great losing streak and I might just pick you. Cody Garbage.”

Garbrandt has been teasing a move to flyweight ever since Cejudo relinquished the Flyweight Title.

It is unknown how official the match between Cejudo and Cruz is as a result of the event not being confirmed yet by the UFC.
