Garcia Drops Granados Thrice, Gets 7th Round TKO

After losing two of his last three fights, both WBC welterweight title fights, Danny Garcia rebounded on April 20 with a brutal seventh-round finish of Adrian Granados in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) card in Carson, California.

“I’m back!” he yelled into a TV camera while standing on the turnbuckles after scoring the win.

With the win, Garcia earns the WBC Silver championship, while also marking the first time Granados has been stopped.

Each man got off to a decent start in the opening round, with Granados landing the bigger quantity of punches, staying busy, while Garcia landed the better quality shots. While Granados looked to continue his pace in the second, Garcia wasn’t having any of it, dropping Granados with a counter left. Garcia got on the attack and managed to drop Granados again about a minute later with a right hand.

Garcia continued to fire away over the next couple of rounds, and many of his shots ended up going unanswered as Granados went into retreat. A hard combination dropped Granados once again in the fifth, prompting both the referee and his own corner to warn of stopping the fight.

Granados managed to go two more rounds, and despite his best efforts, there was nothing behind the punches. After getting tagged with four straight counters and eating a flurry against the ropes in the seventh, the referee waved the bout off.

With this win under his belt, Garcia is hoping for a shot at WBA (Regular) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao or a rematch with either WBA (Super) welterweight champion Keith Thurman or WBC champion Shawn Porter.
