Garcia Expected Back In Action On July 4

Could we see a very patriotic return for Golden Boy? According to prospect Ryan Garcia, he is expecting to make his return to the ring on July 4th.

Garcia (20-0) took to Instagram to announce that he has signed an agreement to fight in July. While a location for the event is unknown, areas being discussed include California and Las Vegas.

“July 4th I’m back. I guess you can say I’m still turnt up!!! I have to keep the momentum going…. I don’t think there will be an audience but It will be streamed on @dazn_usa The Big Question is who’s the opponent??”

The announcement by Garcia comes after Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya stated that his promotion will be returning to action around that time. He discussed how he promotes fights on Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day in September, and how America’s Independence Day is an enticing date to put on fights.

All of this depends on the current situation in America. The coronavirus pandemic has shut down states and several sports have been suspended. Boxing has been halting action since around March. Limitations are being lifted each day, and only time will tell if sports like boxing will be considered an essential business like they are in Florida.

Garcia, 21, is the current WBC Silver Lightweight Champion. He made his professional debut in 2016 and has quickly become De La Hoya’s pet project. “KingRy” main evented a card in February, knocking out Francisco Fonseca. As far as who he would be facing, Garcia has expressed interest in Gervonta Davis and Jorge Linares.
