Garcia Looks To Move To Welterweight

While Mikey Garcia is looking to win his fourth division title, when he faces Sergey Lipinets on March 10th, he is already considering his next moves.

In a story originally published by Boxing Scene, Garcia is looking at moving to welterweight, but not before fighting Jorge Linares at lightweight in a unification fight.

If he’s successful in this scenario, Garcia has set another world class fighter in his sights, Errol Spence Jr. Garcia told reporters that he’d take a fight with Spence over Vasyl Lomachenko if both were options for him.

“I would rather fight Spence [if both he and Lomachenko were on the table]. Its a bigger challenger, a bigger weight class. People may not take me serious, but I’m coming to welterweight later. That’s going to happen. Whether it’s at the end of this year or next year – I’m coming,” Garcia told BoxingScene.com.

“… I might be there (welterweight) even sooner. I would love the opportunity to fight Thurman or Spence. If you are going to challenge for a championship, you may as well do it against the best fighter.”

“I don’t want to take easy fights. I want something that’s excites me, that motivates me. A title and a big name motivates me. And if its Spence or Thurman, those are the biggest names at welterweight.”
