At only 21, Ryan Garcia is quickly rising through the ranks of the boxing world. With Oscar De La Hoya providing the matchups and Canelo Alvarez guiding him, “KingRy” has become a a phenom. The fact that he believes it also helps his cause.
The WBO-NABO and WBC Silver Lightweight Champion, Garcia (20-0) turned pro in 2016 and has seven wins since the start of 2018. His confidence through the roof, Garcia has one goal in mind: to be a champion.
“I am the best fighter in my division right now,” Garcia told DAZN in the above video. “I will say that once I’m done conquering this division, I’ll conquer the next one, and the next one and then my accomplishments will speak for themselves.”
Garcia may have to wait a while for his next challenger due to the coronavirus. He does, however, have a few names in mind whenever he can fight again. He likes the options of Gervonta Davis and Jorge Linares. Following his bout against Francisco Fonseca, one in which he knocked his lights out, Garcia called both fighters out. This comes after Davis (23-0) stated he would kill him.
Currently a Floyd Mayweather prospect, Davis is the WBA Lightweight Champion to go along with the WBA Super-Featherweight Title. Both sides have been talking trash to one another. Garcia doesn’t see anything special when he looks at Davis, a man with 22 wins via knockout.
“Of course ‘Tanky’, we call him ‘Tanky’, the roles are reversed,” Garcia stated. “I’m coming at him. He’s going to eat a lot of punches, which I don’t think he will take. But even if he does, he doesn’t have the heart. he don’t have the heart.”
Garcia went on to say that anything Davis can do Garcia can do better. Due to Davis’ legal concerns, it is unknown what his status is for upcoming fights.
If the fight were to come to fruition, it would be a true clash of the future. Which prodigy would come out on top?
