Garcia On Mayweather: ‘You’re Not Gonna Hold Me Back’
As young as he is, Ryan Garcia understands how the inner workings of the boxing world works. The 21-year-old has a lot of doubters, from fighters to legends. All he can do is just prove them all wrong in the ring. If that doesn’t work, he can throw jabs online.
Talking with Fight Hype, Garcia (20-0) discussed the recent trash-talking by fighters like Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney. The former has been trying to expose Garcia as a fake fighter and stated he can easily take him on. Jorge Linares has even called him an internet champion. Garcia has taken exception to that, pointing out their flaws.
“I know that none of ‘em want to believe it, that they wanna discredit me, man,” Garcia stated, via Bad Left Hook. “They discredit me when I fought the same opponent they fought and beat ‘em…I fought the same fighters they fought and I did it faster and better and all that. But they still don’t wanna give me my credit. But it’s okay, I’m gonna have to fight for my respect always, but it’s all good.
Garcia made his professional debut in 2016. He has fought seven times since the start of 2018. “KingRy’s” last fight was a first-round KO-win against Francisco Fonseca back in February. An accomplishment he has is being the WBC Silver Lightweight Champion.
Expected back in action by July, Garcia wants to face world champions like Gervonta Davis. Oscar De La Hoya has been looking to get him involved in those types of fights. One person who believes he needs to put in more work is Floyd Mayweather. The former multi-time champion in Mayweather (50-0) has called out Garcia on needing to face fighters like Rolando Romero. Garcia is not paying attention to what Mayweather has to say, seeing how “Money” allegedly looked past him a while back.
“Floyd, you did know who I was when you were going to try to sign me,” Garcia went on to say. “You knew who I was then. I’m not really mad at it, I’m not really mad at anybody, period. Honestly, because nobody really wants to give me my respect. They wanna bring me down. They wanna try to hold me back, but you’re not gonna hold me back because I’m determined and I’m ready to prove to everybody that I am the best fighter.
Can Garcia prove himself over the next few months? Who would you like to see him face?
