Garcia-Porter Set For Late Summer

The WBC will have a welterweight champion, as Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter are set to face off for the title vacated by Keith Thurman.

The WBC sanctioned purse bid was cancelled last week, following both sides reaching a deal for a fight for later this year.

According to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, his organization was provided with two potential fight dates, a week apart from one another.

Premier Boxing Champions, which represents both Thurman and Garcia, advised the WBC of two dates, August 25th and September 1st, at  Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“They mentioned to me that [Garcia vs. Porter] will take place on the last Saturday of August or the first Saturday of September. We don’t know anything else, we are waiting for them to give us confirmation,” said Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes.
