Garcia & Stevenson Move Closer To Agreeing To Fight Terms

WBC Welterweight Champion Ryan Garcia says he is willing to face WBC Junior Welterweight Champion Shakur Stevenson at 140 pounds, with no rehydration clause, for the latter’s title. 

Shaur responded to those comments positively, which means a fight is closer to being made. However, making 140 will not be easy for Garcia. Garcia failed to make 140 against Devin Haney in April 2024, coming in 3.2 pounds over the weight limit. Although the fight went ahead after Ryan paid Haney a $1.5 million fine, Ryan could not fight for the WBC belt. The extra weight was also seen as an advantage for Ryan.

Garcia’s majority decision win was ultimately turned into a no-contest after he failed VADA tests for Ostarine. Garcia subsequently said he could not make 140 as he moved up to face Rolando Romero at 147, where he lost a unanimous decision, but then beat Barrios at the same weight. It seems he is now ready to make 140 for the Shakur fight. Ryan and Shakur have now set their own demands for the fight at 140.

“Forget the catchweight… Let’s do it for real I want to take your belt and snatch it right off you. To those that are worried about the 140 pound weight… it was my plan to be able to also win at 140. As long as there’s no rehydration clause things will be going forward… I’m coming for you,” Garcia stated
