The UFC 244 co-main event is in a bit of trouble as Darren Till’s visa issues may cause him to miss weight or miss the card entirely.
Till, who’d be flying from England to New York City as late as Friday may miss weight due to the issues of a transatlantic flight, and that’s even if Till is allowed to fly into the country.
As reported on Wednesday, Jared Cannonier was tapped by the UFC to step in if Till is unable to compete, but his opponent Kelvin Gastelum is not down with that.
“I just don’t think it’s fair to me to take that fight on two days notice,” Gastelum told MMAmania.com and other media at a scrum following his open workout. “Of course I will fight anybody, but give me time to prepare for that person.”
If Till is on-weight and he’s able to square off with Gastelum, the middleweight believes a win can get him to square off with new champion Israel Adesanya after a fight with Paulo Costa or Yoel Romero.
“100 percent,” he said. “I think a win over Till could guarantee me a title shot. Not for sure, but I’m pretty positive if I go out there and put a stamp on Darren that title shot is inevitable.”
