Gegard Mousasi TKOs John Salter, Continues Reign As Bellator Middleweight Champion
Gegard Mousasi and John Salter fought aggressively in the octagon Saturday, but it was Mousasi who came out dominant, extending his run as his division’s champion.
Mousasi (48-7-2) defended his title successfully with a TKO finish over Salter (18-5) at 2:07 of the third round of Bellator 264 in Uncasville, Connecticut. The two fighters headlined the event.
In the first round, Salter went for the takedown and was controlling his opponent. The same was in the second round as Mousasi defended from a takedown, but Salter displayed his dominance and took Mousasi down.
In the last minute of the second round, Mousasi reversed and landed some vast punches on the ground. Both fighters looked tired after such an active round.
In the third round, Salter went for a takedown, but Mousasi answered back, turned over his opponent and finished him with brutal ground punches.
In the co-main event, Andrey Koreshkov defeated Sabah Homasi via unanimous decision.
Judges scored that bout 30-26. The first round was very close; both fighters had their moments. Homasi was attacking Koreshkov’s legs and trying to control him in the clinch, but Koreshkov landed some solid shots. Judges gave this round to Koreshkov.
In the second round, Koreshkov destroyed Homasi.
He landed huge shots and kicks, landed several takedowns, dominated on the ground, several submission attempts, which was 10-8. The third round looked a bit closer, but was not enough for Homasi.
Meanwhile, Radeon Stots and Magomed Magomedov offered MMA fans one of the best fights on the card.
Both showed excellent skills in striking and wrestling. Magomedov was a heavy favorite in this fight with the odds -550. But Stots defeated his rival with the judge’s scorecard 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
As Mousasi continues his reign, there’s been some rumors of his next opponent being Yoel Romero, who is set to make his Bellator debut on September 18. Mousasi said if Romero makes middleweight, “we’re going to fight.”
