Geoff Neal Arrested On DWI, Weapon Charges Ahead Of UFC 269

On the cusp of his next fight, the UFC welterweight Geoff Neal has run into legal trouble as he was arrested on Thanksgiving Day on the account of drunk driving and carrying a weapon.

Neal, 31, was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety at 3:47 a.m. on the morning of November 25 in the wake of misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and illegally carrying a weapon. He was then sent to the Collin County Jail, in McKinney, where he was further interrogated.

His bond was set at $1,000 for each charge and was released at just after 8 p.m. on the same day.

The 31-year-old is set to meet Santiago Ponzinibbio at the final pay-per-view event of the year, UFC 269 on December 10 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He will be looking to bounce back in style as he is coming off back-to-back losses to Stephen Thompson and Neil Magny.

Before this dark patch, the Austin-native was riding a seven-win streak and was reviewed as a genuine title contender, but the two losses somewhat made his case feeble.

In 2020, Neal contracted a bacterial infection that landed him in the ICU for about a week. He became inactive.

After his loss to Magny in May, the 31-year-old did mention that he still feels the effect of ailment and hasn’t fully recovered from the deadly infection.

And after his added trouble with the law, only time will tell what state of mind he is in and if he will be able to deliver the show for his fans or not.
