George Arias Shocks Cassius Chaney With Split Decision Win

George Arias got the better of Cassius Chaney in the contest between two unbeaten boxing prodigies.

Arias won the 10 rounder via split decision in the co-main event at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Arias improved his win tally to 17.

Two judges scored the contest 99-91 and 97-93 in his favor whereas the third judge gave it 94-96 to Chaney. This has dented fan-favorite Chaney’s record to 21-1.

In the opening rounds, Arias was seemingly having a hard time penetrating Chaney’s defense, but that changed in the third round when he rattled Chaney with a strong left hook.

After a busy third round, both boxers looked tired at the end. But merely a minute’s rest had both boxers refreshed and rearing to finish the fight.

Chaney barely threw a haymaker in the first three rounds as Arias kept outfoxing him. Chaney wobbled Arias briefly in the sixth round with a right hand, but the retired heavyweight withstood the blow.

Both showed real intent of knocking each other out in the seventh round with both heavyweights landing and ducking a few shots. But Arias regained the momentum again and continued to work his way.
