George Kambosos Jr Is The New Unified World Lightweight Champion

George Kambosos Jr. has clinched every belt that Teofimo Lopez held before the Saturday showdown held at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The Australian star upset the odds to beat fan-favorite Lopez via split decision after a thrilling 12 rounds.

Lopez, 24, started the fight with clear intentions of knocking out the challenger, but it was Kambosos who sent Lopez down to the canvas instead.

Lopez looked wobbled after being hit with a strong right hand. In the latter rounds, Kambosos held composure and stuck to his game plan.

Lopez knocked down Kambosos in the 10th round, but the Australian powerhouse got back in within seconds.

The newly-crowned unified world lightweight champion was in tears after the announcer declared him the winner while Lopez looked over to his corner in disbelief.

The American boxer showed respect to the winner, but he felt that he got robbed of a victory.

“Hell of a fighter, but I won tonight,” Lopez said right after the fight concluded.

This bout was supposed to be a walk in the park for Lopez who had his eyes on the prized fight against Josh Taylor. But Kambosos’ lightning quick hands and agility outfoxed Lopez.

The former champ couldn’t land a single strike that could wobble his challenger.
