George Kambosos Jr. (20-2) is reportedly set to take on Maxi Hughes (26-5-2) on June 29th, 2023, in Las Vegas.
This would be his first fight since his consecutive losses against undisputed champion Devin Haney. Prior to that, Kambosos Jr. had beaten Teofimo Lopez in order to become the unified-lightweight champion.
And in Hughes, Kambosos has the opportunity to win the IBO lightweight title. Should he come out victorious, the Australian would put himself in line to face Haney once again as an IBF title contender.
With that being said, Kombosos is looking to make a statement of intent.
“I will stop him. I’m not just going to beat him; I will knock him out or seriously put a beating on this guy.
“I am levels above Maxi Hughes. There is nothing he can do that I didn’t see against Devin Haney, let alone the 22 fights I’ve had in my career.
“I will win the fight, and Ferocious will be back. “When I win this fight, I’m back in line for the IBF world title. I’m a big-name fighter, and I still deserve the biggest fighters,” Kombosos Jr. Dailymail AU
