George Kambosos Jr. To Make His Return in Ring Against Former Champ
He is coming off of back-to-back loses to Devin Haney.
The former unified lightweight champ, George Kambosos Jr. is expected to make his comeback in the ring against a former champ at the end of April or early May.
Kambosos Jr. infamously won the lightweight titles from Teofimo Lopez in late 2021 but couldn’t hold on to the straps for long as he lost them to Davin Haney subsequently.
Kambosos Jr. had another chance to rectify himself and get the titles back from Haney in October last year. But the American fighter proved too much for him as he kept ‘ferocious’ at bay during the whole bout.
Following the fight, it seemed that it would be all over for Kambosos who intended to hang his gloves up for good but now he himself has given a timeline on his possible return to the ring.
Kambosos Jr. notified that he is again back with new motivation and zeal and intends to keep on striving for a bigger prize in boxing. The Australian will be back in action in late April or May of this year.
“I’m in a position to fight when I want to fight when I’m ready to fight, but the type of person that I am, I’m getting the itch. I want to fight real soon,” said George Kambosos Jr to Fighthype.
“It looks like the end of April or the start of May, I’ll fight.”
Kambosos Jr. has also given a hint for his possible next opponent and according to him, it will be a former champ.
“We’re all in the talks. It’ll be a former world champion. It looks like it could be in Sydney. It could be in Vegas as well. There are a lot of options and possibilities” added Kambosos Jr.
With Kambosos Jr. avoiding a scuffle with the division’s new entrant, Shakur Stevenson, the leftovers against which he can pick a fight are Joseph ‘Jojo’ Diaz and Jezreel Corrales.
