Germaine de Randamie-Julianna Pena Reportedly Set For October UFC Event

With Amanda Nunes appearing to be taking a break from the UFC over the next few months, the UFC’s bantamweight division requires some contenders. Two women will reportedly face off with a goal to earn a title opportunity.

MMA Fighting was the first to report that Germaine de Randamie and Julianna Pena will fight one another on October 3. The event is considered a fight night and not a PPV.

A former UFC Featherweight Champion, de Randamie (9-4) is coming off of a loss against Nunes back in December at UFC 245. Fighting for the UFC Bantamweight Title, de Randamie lost via unanimous decision. The loss, her second against Nunes, ended a five-fight win streak.

Pena (9-3) has never fought Nunes before. She won her last bout in July 2019, beating Nicco Montano via unanimous decision. It was a rebound following a loss to Valentina Shevchenko in 2017, ending a four-fight win streak. Pena took a hiatus from fighting to become a mother. The 30-year-old was supposed to fight Aspen Ladd in March but had to pull out due to an injury.

de Randamie is still ranked first in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings while Pena is ranked fourth.

The UFC event on October 3 does not have a location yet, but it may take place on either “Fight Island” or in Las Vegas.
