Gervonta Davis And David Benavidez Could Feature On The Same Card

Gervonta Davis vs Frank Martin and David Benavidez vs Oleksandr Gvozdyk could be on the same card on June 15 via Amazon Prime Video PPV.

That is according to Benavidez’s father/trainer, Jose Benavidez Sr. The card would be a massive coup for PBC and Amazon Prime Video following their recent multi-year deal. Davis will headline the event, having not fought since knocking out Ryan Garcia last year. After his win, The WBA Lightweight Champion found himself in some legal trouble.

Davis was sentenced to prison for violating the terms of his house arrest over a hit-and-run incident. The boxer was required to do 90 days of house arrest. But after breaking the terms, Davis served the remainder of that in jail for 44 days. A win over Martin, an undefeated southpaw, could prepare Davis for fights against the more technically skilled boxers in Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.

Benavidez may end up facing Gvozdyk for the WBC Light Heavyweight Interim Title. The Mexican Monster has struggled to get Canelo Alvarez in the ring, who will face Jaime Munguia on May 4 instead. A win against Gvozdyk makes Benavidez mandatory for the winner of Arthur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol, who face off on June 1 for undisputed.

That leaves the WBC with a decision to make over which mandatory to call first since Benavidez would be a mandatory in two weight classes: 168 and 175. However, a move up to 175 makes it much more difficult for the Mexican to come back down and face Canelo.
