Gervonta Davis And Floyd Schofield Negotiations Underway

Negotiations are underway for a WBA lightweight title fight between Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and mandatory challenger Floyd Schofield Jr. (19-0, 13 KOs), with a June 22 deadline before the matter goes to purse bids.

The two sides are targeting a date between mid-September and early October, with one official close to the talks expressing confidence that a deal will be struck before the deadline.

“I think we can make it work. I bet we have something done. We don’t want to go to purse bid.”

The fight would pit former three-division world champion Davis against the unbeaten Schofield, the WBA’s No. 1 ranked lightweight. Schofield, 23, last fought in June 2025, stopping former world champion Tevin Farmer. Davis has not fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025.

Schofield’s father and trainer Floyd Sr. welcomed the prospect of finally landing the fight his son has long pursued, and brushed aside any concerns over Davis’ inactivity. Should no agreement be reached by June 22, the WBA can order a purse bid.
