Gervonta Davis Called Out By Top Ranked Fighter

The WBA number 1 ranked lightweight Floyd Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) is calling for a summer showdown against former world champion Gervonta Davis (30-0-1)

Davis’ career is at a crossroads after a difficult period. In January 2026, the WBA officially designated Davis as “Champion in Recess” following inactivity (his last bout was a March 2025 majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr.) and legal issues. Schofield is coming off a first-round knockout over Tevin Farmer in June 2025, and since then his father and trainer, Floyd Schofield Sr., has been vocal about forcing the fight at 135 lbs, alleging that Davis has bulked up to near 175 lbs during his time away. However, reports suggested that Davis’ team is in negotiations for a rematch with Isaac Cruz so Schofield may have to wait for his shot at Davis.
