Gervonta Davis False Imprisonment Charge Dismissed

The felony false imprisonment charge against former WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has been dropped, but he still faces allegations of battery and attempted kidnapping.

Back in January, ‘Tank’ was arrested in Florida after a two-week search by Miami Gardens Police in conjunction with the United States Marshals Service. He faced the initial three charges based on allegations from an incident involving an ex-romantic partner at a club last October. The former girlfriend claimed Davis assaulted her, then forcibly took her down a hallway and into a parking garage. Luckily, the victim managed to break free from the ongoing assault.

It is being reported that the prosecutors’ reason for dropping the false imprisonment charge was because they felt it was redundant, and they think it’s best to focus on the indictments of felony attempted kidnapping and misdemeanor battery.

Davis (30-0-1) most recently squared off with Lamont Roach Jr. last March, and while the bout resulted in a draw, that was all that Tank needed to continue his reign as the WBA lightweight champion. But his title reign has now come to an end in light of the legal trouble, as the WBA has stripped him of the belt and reclassified him as ‘Champion in Recess’. Additionally, the alleged assault cost him a massive payday, as he had a fight lined up with Jake Paul on Netflix in last November, but Most Valuable Promotions pulled the plug when the information surrounding the incident surfaced.
