Gervonta Davis Fights Vs. Ryan Garcia, Vasiliy Lomachenko Are ‘Gonna Happen’
Gervonta Davis is arguably one of the most wanted men in the lightweight division.
Of those who have called out or were rumored to be linked for a fight with the 27-0 boxer is Ryan Garcia and Vasiliy Lomachenko. According to Davis’ longtime trainer Calvin Ford, those two fights are bound to happen.
“It’s gonna happen,” Ford told Fight Hype.
“Listen to what I’m saying, all of those fights are gonna happen.”
Garcia, who is coming off of a knockout win over Javier Fortuna, has made it most clear that he wants to take on “Tank.”
Ahead of his July 16 fight with Fortuna, Garcia addressed his constant callouts of Davis and told FIGHT SPORTS that he’s not “desperate” to fight Davis, but is “hungry” to show how much better he is.
Ford said Garcia’s callouts resemble Rolando Romero, who was technically knocked out by Davis on May 28 at the Barclays Center. Romero did almost all of the trash talking leading up to the fight.
“He’s trying to take a page from Rolly, that’s all I can say,” said Ford.
“Last time he said he was gonna fight Tank, he didn’t fight Tank. So, right now we just sitting and waiting and what not to see what happens.”
As for Lomachenko, he returned to the U.S. after defending Ukraine from the Russian invasion, which started in February. He is reportedly set up for a fight against Jamaine Ortiz and, should he be victorious, a fight against undisputed champion Devin Haney – if he beats George Kambosos Jr in their rematch also in October.
“It just gotta wait until the stars and the moons line up to make it happen,” Ford added.
