Gervonta Davis Secures Decision Win Over Isaac Cruz

Gervonta Davis (26-0) continued his unbeaten streak against Isaac Cruz on Sunday with a unanimous decision win. Judges scored the contest 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 in the Tank’s favor.

Cruz put up a stellar show despite losing to the WBA titlist. Cruz was a late replacement for Rolando Romero, who was removed from the card following accusations of sexual assault.

The 23-year-old showed a lot of heart throughout the bout, absorbing Davis’s hardest shots the entire fight. Despite the injury, Cruz didn’t let the champ dominate the fight and continued to come forward.

However, Davis has claimed that he couldn’t knock out Cruz because he was injured.

“I hurt my hand, so I couldn’t get him out of there,” Davis said in the post-fight interview. “All those guys are easy work. I’m the top dog.”

The champ was seemingly struggling to land powerful shots, but he showed an excellent boxing IQ and his overall performance resembled much to his mentor and former undefeated champion — Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

His stiff jabs and superb footwork earned him victories in more rounds in response to Cruz’s occasional wild swings.

Boxing fans were expecting Davis to call out either George Kambosos Jr or Devin Haney, but the WBA champ avoided mentioning their names instead.
