Gervonta Davis To Train With Jose Benavidez Sr For Return
Jose Benavidez Sr will be taking over training duties for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis for his return to the ring, being discussed for this fall.
Tank hasn’t fought since his March 2025 majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. Since then, Davis ran into legal trouble that included the championship boxer being arrested multiple times, and charged with battery and assault.
Coupled with the legal trouble, Davis’ WBA lightweight title status was downgraded to ‘Champion in Recess’ following the initial allegations that preceded his arrest. An opponent for Tank’s return to action has not yet been revealed, and while it has been reported that Devin Haney’s team received a call about the potential fight, most are suspecting mandatory WBA challenger Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield will share the ring with Davis.
Following his split with long time coach Calvin Ford, Davis got together to work out with Jose Benavidez Sr, and it now appears the pair will team up for the high profile, yet still very much unconfirmed, return.
🥊‼️Gervonta Davis will be working with Jose Benavidez Sr (departing from Calvin Ford and Kenny Ellis) for his upcoming fight as they have been working for weeks to see if it was a good fit‼️😳
