Gervonta Davis vs. Leo Santa Cruz Gets Date & Venue Change
There are a few changes to the Gervonta Davis vs. Leo Santa Cruz card.
Davis vs. Santa Cruz was supposed to take place on October 24. It was scheduled to be held inside an empty Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. While the bout is still on tap, there is a new date as well as a new location.
The card for Davis vs. Santa Cruz has been moved to October 31. It’ll now be held inside the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Fans will be allowed in the building. There is no word on what the reduced capacity will be. The Athletic was the first to report the changes to the Davis vs. Santa Cruz event.
The report notes that changing the date to Halloween allows PBC to avoid another event that competes with a UFC pay-per-view. While UFC 254 will be held at 2 p.m. ET, it’s still a tough ask to hold a PPV on the same day that Khabib Nurmagomedov competes.
As for the venue change, it allows for boxing to have a live gate during the COVID-19 pandemic, albeit reduced. It’s the first major boxing title fight to be held in front of a live crowd since the outbreak. Davis will put his WBA (Regular) Lightweight Title on the line, while Santa Cruz’s WBA (Super) Super-Featherweight gold will be up for grabs.
