Gervonta Davis Vs. Rolando Romero On The Cards For 2022
A super-fight between Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero is back in the works after their showdown was scrapped last year following accusations of sexual assault against Romero.
Romero, 26, was replaced by Isaac Cruz, who gave the Tank a run for his money, but could not do just enough to clinch Davis’ title.
A few months later, the charges were later dropped against Romero after, as he puts it, no evidence was found that proved him guilty.
This has brought him back into the conversation and he has already announced on social media that he is raring to share the ring with Davis.
Fans were expecting a fight between George Kambosos Jr and Davis, but according to committee chairman Carlos Chavez, the WBA has decided to give Romero a shot at the title.
“The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee ordered the lightweight world title fight between champion Gervonta Davis and mandatory challenger Rolando Romero,” Chavez confirmed on Monday.
“The pioneer body sent the formal communication to both teams. [B]oth fighters… will have 30 days, which expires next February 24, to reach an agreement.”
On the other hand, Kambosos is likely to defend his titles against Devin Haney or Vasiliy Lomachenko.
