Gervonta Davis Vs. Rolando Romero Set For May 28

Rolando Romero’s shot at Gervonta Davis is back on.

The two agreed to a deal to take place on May 28 on Showtime PPV, ESPN reported. A location has yet to be finalized, but it will be a lightweight bout.

Davis and Romero were originally scheduled to fight on December 5 in Los Angeles, but Romero was dropped from the bout after he was accused of sexual assault.

Davis then took on Isaac Cruz instead, who he defeated in a tougher-than-expected matchup. Davis won the fight via unanimous decision, which was the first time in years that he didn’t knock his opponent out.

Weeks later, the Henderson Police Department in Nevada concluded the investigation and Romero was not charged. The December 29 incident report said, “the allegations … do not meet the elements of the crime of sexual assault. [The woman] stated when she voiced her demands that Romero cease particular acts during their time together, he did cease to perform those acts.”

Romero (14-0, 12 KOs) will now get to display his skills against ESPN’s No. 10 pound-for-pound boxer. He most recently won by TKO over Avery Sparrow and Anthony Yigit.

Davis (26-0, 24 KOs), meanwhile, will try to record a stunning win over Romero after his last performance against Cruz, which some boxing fans thought he lost. Before that December fight, he defeated Mario Barrios via TKO.

Both Romero and Davis are promoted by Floyd Mayweather Jr.
