GGG & Derevyanchenko Presser Set For Thursday

Following both men being unable to schedule a fight with Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin and Sergiy Derevyanchenko will announce their battle for the IBF middleweight title.

The press conference, scheduled for August 22nd inside Madison Square Garden, where the two will fight on October 5th, after the two fighters were ordered to fight for the vacant title.

For Derevyanchenko, this will mark the second time he’s fought for this title in the span of a year, fighting for the title vacated by Golovkin in 2018, in a losing effort to Daniel Jacobs. Golovkin initially was stripped of the title for persuing a rematch with Alvarez instead of facing Derevyanchenko, who was his mandated opponent.

Per Boxing Scene, the negotiations for their October 5th fight airing on DAZN are not final, but close enough to set up the presser, less than 20-days after the two sides began talks after the IBF stripped Alvarez of the middleweight crown.

Alvarez and his team at Golden Boy were attempting to come to a deal with Derevyanchenko and his promoter Lou DiBella, but were unable to make a deal after pushing back purse bids numerous times since Alvarez won the title from Jacobs on May 4th.
